Frequently Asked Questions

Tap "Begin Your Journey" on the intro screen, enter your name, email, phone number, date of birth, and create a password. You'll receive a verification email. Tap the link, then sign back in to get started.

On the verification screen, tap "Resend" (available every 60 seconds). If you entered the wrong email, tap "Use a different email" to correct it.

Tap "Forgot password?" on the login screen and enter your email. You'll receive a reset link that opens directly in the app. After setting your new password, you're signed in automatically.

Six types: Video, Audio, Photo, Gallery Upload, Written Ember (a letter or message), and Personal Memory (saved privately to your Garden without sending to anyone).

There's no hard cutoff while you're recording, but very long recordings (over 15 minutes) may take longer to upload and process. For the best experience, we recommend keeping individual recordings under 15 minutes. You can always record multiple clips.

Yes. Before sending, you can make basic edits like cropping, rotating, applying filters, and trimming video clips.

Yes. On the delivery screen, you can attach up to 4 additional photos or videos from your gallery as "Memory Layers."

Storyholders are the people you share memories with. Each one has a name and relationship label, and optionally their email, phone, and a photo. There are three types. Contactable means they can receive embers. Memorial is for someone who has passed, where embers are preserved in your Garden. Private is a personal journal entry.

Yes. They'll receive an email or text with a link to view your ember on the web. No app or account required. They can save the content to their device.

A Spark is a request you send asking someone to share a memory with you. Write a prompt like "Share your favorite childhood memory," and they'll receive a link to record and send back their response. You can send up to 3 gentle reminders.

Their response appears in your Inbox. You can approve it to save to your Garden. If multiple people respond to the same Spark, their responses are grouped into a Collection.

Three. Message Generation lets AI write a heartfelt message based on your media and recipients. Message Enhancement rewrites your draft to be more vivid and emotionally resonant. Transcription automatically converts audio and video into text after upload.

On the delivery screen, tap "Generate." AI writes a two to three sentence message based on what you're sending and who you're sending it to. You can edit the result, regenerate, or write your own instead.

Write your message first, then tap "Enhance." AI rewrites it to be more heartfelt while preserving your meaning and length. Your original text is never overwritten.

For message generation, AI only sees the media type and recipient names, not the actual content. For enhancement, it sees your message text. For transcription, only the audio is processed. No AI model sees your full media content for generation purposes.

AI features are always optional. If something doesn't work as expected, you can retry or simply write your own message. You're never blocked from sending.

Only you can see your embers in the app. Recipients can only view the specific ember you sent them via their unique access link. They cannot browse your other content.

Only if you manually add a location to your ember. GPS metadata is automatically stripped from photos before upload. The app never tracks your location in the background.

Yes. Go to Settings, then Security, then Biometric Lock. After that, the app requires biometric authentication every time you open it.

All personal data is scrubbed from error reports. Emails, phone numbers, and any sensitive information are redacted before anything is sent. You can opt out of error reporting entirely in Settings.

Yes. In Settings under Privacy, choose who can find you: Everyone, Connections only, or completely Private.

Yes. Go to Settings, then Privacy & Data, then Export My Data. This generates a file with your profile, storyholders, and history. You can also save individual photos, videos, and recordings directly from your Garden.

Settings, then Delete Account walks you through a guided process. You'll choose what to do with any pending scheduled sends, re-enter your password to confirm, and your account enters a 60-day grace period before permanent deletion. You can cancel anytime during that period.

They stay with the recipients. Delivered embers are treated as gifts. The recipient's copy remains even after your account is permanently deleted.

Yes, within the 60-day grace period. A banner appears in Settings. Tap it to cancel. You can also email support@emberlegacy.ai.

Settings, then Theme. Choose Light, Dark, or System to follow your device setting.
